In the realm of spiritual warfare and prayer, two terms often intermingle, yet hold unique and powerful meanings: declarations and decrees. Many times, when we engage in prayer, we hear phrases like, "I decree and declare." But what exactly distinguishes these two concepts, and how can we effectively harness their power to manifest God's will in our lives? In this article, we will explore the profound distinctions between declarations and decrees and learn how to utilize them in our spiritual journey.
The Origin of Declarations: To comprehend the essence of declarations, we must trace the word back to its Hebrew roots. "Declare" is derived from the Hebrew word "achvah," signifying "to make known" and "to set forth details and information." This term has historical ties to finance, where it denotes making an account or explaining a matter thoroughly. Thus, when we make declarations, we are essentially unveiling truths, revealing what we already possess, and offering an account of our blessings.
Affirming Existing Truths: Declarations resonate with truths that already exist, confirming the promises bestowed upon us. It's akin to proclaiming the reality of what we carry within us. Consider Job 22:28:
"Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways."
This verse emphasizes the act of declaring as a means of manifesting what is already ours.
Decree in English: A decree, in the English sense, carries a level of authority akin to an order issued by a court. When we decree, we exercise this authority against the plans and purposes of the enemy, asserting God's divine order over our lives.
Biblical Significance of Decrees: Biblically, decrees align closely with God's purposes and truth. They are not separate but are intricately intertwined with His divine plan. To ensure alignment with God's will, we must base our decrees on His Word, using Scripture as a foundation. This is why we must only use decrees based on God’s Word. The Scriptures are a great safety net to guarantee that we speak only the will and purposes of God over our life.
The Hebrew Perspective: From a Hebrew standpoint, decree means "to divide, to cut in two, to cut off, to destroy, to separate, or exclude." When we decree, we not only establish blessings but also, according to the Hebrew definition, separate ourselves from anything purposed against our blessings. We actively cut off and destroy the schemes of the enemy.
Decree in German: A decree signifies a powerful judgment imposed on a defeated adversary. It carries an inherent authority that cannot be opposed, reflecting the commanding influence of decrees. When we speak decrees, we release unchallengeable divine proclamations that secure God's will without any room for resistance from our conquered adversaries. At this point in my study of decrees I was very encouraged!
When we speak decrees, we unleash a multifaceted power:
Proclaiming with Authority: Decrees carry the weight of a court order, asserting God's sovereignty over our circumstances.
Aligning with God's Will: They align our lives with the very will and purposes of God, ensuring that our paths mirror His divine plan.
Protection from the Enemy: Decrees act as a shield, separating us from the enemy's intentions, cutting off their access to our blessings.
Imposing Divine Judgment: We impose a harsh judgment on our defeated adversary
Unassailable Words: Our decrees cannot be opposed!
Job 38 offers insight into this principle with God's question to Job about commanding the morning. To command is to instruct, dictate, exercise authority, master and conquer, control, give orders to, demand what is due, rule, decree, supervise, keep watch, manage, administrate, and regulate. This illustrates the immense authority vested in our words. God asked a series of questions that exposes the principle of commanding the morning:
“Have you commanded the morning since your days began, And caused the dawn to know its place, That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, And the wicked be shaken out of it?” - Job 38:12-13
It's crucial to recognize that the power for change, prosperity, health, and success resides in the words we speak. As we decipher the distinctions between declarations and decrees, we realize the profound authority God has granted us through prayer. Do not miss this principle!
The power for change is in your mouth.
The power for prosperity is in your mouth.
The power for health and healing is in your mouth.
The power for a successful ministry, marriage, business, relationship, or whatever you need is in your mouth!
Let your declarations make known the truths you carry, and let your decrees align your life with God's divine plan. The power to shape your reality is in your mouth, a power bestowed upon you by the Creator Himself.
