October 10, 20236 min read

In our quest for personal freedom, there are essential steps we must navigate. Among these crucial phases, repentance emerges as the pivotal third step. It follows the critical initial stages of recognition and taking responsibility. Repentance, in essence, becomes the linchpin of our journey towards freedom. It's impossible to genuinely repent for something we fail to recognize, and it's equally unattainable without first taking responsibility for our actions. Join us as we delve into the transformative power of repentance on the path to true freedom.

In the book of Acts, a profound message resonates in Acts 3:19:

"And you, therefore, be converted, that your sins may be blotted out when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord."

This passage offers a compelling perspective on the nature of repentance. It underscores the idea that genuine relief and spiritual renewal hinge upon our willingness to repent.

Repentance isn't merely an emotional response; it's a deliberate and decisive choice. It entails a conscious decision to distance ourselves from sin, opting instead to align with a higher purpose. In essence, it's a question of whether we choose to engage in sin or abstain from it. This biblical insight reminds us that the path to spiritual refreshment and forgiveness necessitates a resolute commitment to this transformative process.

“Against thee, the only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speaketh, and be clear when thou judges.”
Psalms 51:4

Exemplary Prayer of Repentance

“Father, I recognize that you are justified when you speak and when you judge because you are God. I take responsibility and repent for participating with sin and overthrowing who you are in the earth through me. Will you forgive me?”

In the book of Ezekiel, the concept of repentance is unveiled:

"Therefore, I will judge you, O House of Israel, everyone according to his ways, saith the Lord God. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so, iniquity shall not be your ruin."
Ezekiel 18:30 (KJV)

This verse invites us to embark on a deeply personal journey of self-reflection. As individuals walking the path of faith, it becomes our responsibility to assess whether repentance is a necessary step in our lives as sinning Saints. Ezekiel's prophetic words emphasize that it is our transgressions that create a divide between us and our Creator, compelling us to repent and experience conversion. In this context, repentance serves as the bridge that can mend our relationship with God.

Renounce Your Sin

In our journey towards personal growth and transformation, we encounter four distinct steps. These steps serve as the foundation for positive change in our lives:

  1. Recognition: The initial step is recognition, where we acknowledge and become aware of our actions, thoughts, or behaviors.

  2. Taking Responsibility: Following recognition, we embrace responsibility for our actions, accepting that we have played a part in our current situation.

  3. Repent: The third phase involves repenting for the things we have recognized and taken responsibility for, signifying our sincere desire for change.

  4. Renounce: The fourth and final step, often underestimated, is renouncing. Renouncing means decisively and actively rejecting those behaviors or beliefs we have just repented for.

While many find it relatively easier to recognize, take responsibility, and even repent, the act of renouncing can present a unique challenge. So, what does it truly mean to renounce something?

To renounce is to make a firm and unwavering commitment to abandon a particular behavior, attitude, or mindset. It requires a resolute decision to distance oneself from the negative patterns we've recognized and taken responsibility for. Renouncing is the crucial step that solidifies our commitment to change, ensuring that we do not return to old habits and allowing us to move forward on our path to personal growth.

It would go something like this:

“Fear, listen to me. I recognize you. I have taken responsibility for you. I have repented to God for allowing you to participate in my life and for me participating with you period now fear of man, fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of mother-in-laws and every kind of fear that has been plaguing me and my generations, I not only recognize you, I not only have taken responsibility for you, I not only have repented before God, but now I am renouncing forever everything you stand for in my life.”

Be Bold in Renouncing

It is paramount that you boldly renounce what you have repented for. Speak it aloud, for these spiritual forces cannot discern your thoughts but can hear your voice. Address your declarations with unwavering clarity and determination, ensuring that fear or any other malevolent influence is aware of your intent. As the Apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 10:20:

"But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils and not to God: and I would not that you should have fellowship with devils."

In light of this perspective, we must inquire: How do we unwittingly engage in fellowship with these malevolent forces? It transpires when we partake in emotions such as fear, jealousy, envy, lust, and engage in strife, or any other form of sin that seeks to manifest in our lives and in our world. Such participation constitutes fellowship with devils.

We must be firm in our declarations, rejecting these negative influences and reaffirming our commitment to walk a righteous path. In doing so, we sever any ties with the forces of darkness, maintaining our course toward spiritual purity and unity.

When you see these things in your life, say this:

“Listen, fear. Listen, bitterness. I recognize you. I have taken responsibility before God for allowing you to use the members of my body for your purposes. I have repented to God. Now listen to me talk to you. You have to go! I renounce everything you stand for in my life and on this planet."

Let your declarations be bold. The Kingdom of God suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
